Rebuilt and ready to go

Pardon the paint, sawdust, and spare pixels - I’ve been rebuilding the site, and the rebuild has finally reached the blog.

If we haven’t met before - hi! I’m Josh, and I’m a photographer/graphic designer/web designer/digital jack-of all trades. This section of the site is going to focus (punny!) on my photography, including some tips I’ve picked up, new stuff I’m working on, and various odds and ends.

Speaking of photography: In addition to rebuilding the site, I’ve been working with a macro lens this spring and summer. It’s a Tamron 90 mm f2.8 Di III VXD lens, and my first Tamron lens of any kind.

So far, I’ve been very happy with it. Macro photography is something I’ve toyed with over the years, but it has never felt like I had the right tool for the job. Getting this lens has been a big step in the right direction. (See the bee photo attached to this post).

That’s the thought for today, I think: Invest in the right tool for the job - or at least a version of it that will let you get started comfortably. It’s easy to drop thousands on gear, but there’s nothing wrong with ordering secondhand or off-brand. There are plenty of off-brand models that do a great job. I’ve got a mix of Sigma, Sony, and Tamron lenses, and I like them all.

So: What’s currently in the works?

  1. A trip to Scotland. I’m headed there in September for two weeks, and will be shooting a lot in Edinburgh, the Isle of Skye, and Glencoe. Hopefully I can post from the road.

  2. A photo show! I’ve got a exhibit opening November 1 at the Ledyard Gallery in Hanover. It will feature photos from a trip to New Zealand last year, and is called “Mirage of the Ocean.”

  3. New 2026 calendars! I got out of the calendars game for a while, but they are back! Check out the store.

That’s it for now. Cheers and be safe out there.
